Sgema has this week become the first creative projects agency in Wales to receive the prestigious Cynnig Cymraeg certification from the Welsh Language Commissioner.
Delivering a mix of research and integrated communications solutions for clients across Wales the certification reinforces Sgema’s position as a leading provider of bilingual research, communications and marketing support, to its clients based both in Wales and working on a UK and international level.
The Cynnig Cymraeg certification recognises businesses providing Welsh language services and is the official recognition of the Welsh Language Commissioner. It is only given to organisations that have worked with the Commissioner’s office to develop and deliver ambitious Welsh language services.
It supports the Commissioner’s long-term plan to ensure people can use the Welsh language in all aspects of their lives, in all parts of Wales, across all services.
Chartered by both the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), first language Welsh speaker and senior consultant, Meilyr Ceredig, said:
“Ensuring the Welsh language is front and centre of all our communications from initial planning stages onwards ensures we deliver for clients activity that resonate with their target audience in their preferred language. Messaging can be tailored and not slavishly translated, unique campaigns created, as well as supporting further the ambition of supporting and growing the Welsh language’s reach in all walks of life. We thank the Welsh Language Commissioner’s officers in working with us to secure this certification and encourage all businesses operating in Wales to begin the journey towards this end goal.”
Welsh Language Commissioner, Efa Gruffudd Jones, is delighted at Sgema’s approach, commenting:
“The Cynnig Cymraeg scheme gives organisations the opportunity to raise awareness of their Welsh language services that will in turn lead to an increase in the use of Welsh in our day to day lives. As Welsh Language Commissioner my main aim is to promote and facilitate the use of the Welsh language. We will therefore work with Sgema to encourage other companies delivering PR, marketing and public affairs services in Wales to go for it and try for Cynnig Cymraeg certification.”
