We’re asked often what does Sgema mean. Well here’s an attempt to elaborate a little further the background of our philosophy, with the hope of it not sounding too pretentious… ‘Sgema’ is the Welsh word for ‘schema’, a term that captures the essence of our approach to every project. The Oxford English Dictionary defines a schema as a “theoretical construction; a draft, design,” highlighting our commitment to building a solid foundation for every creative journey.
Creative project driven by research
Choosing the name Sgema was a deliberate reflection of our core belief that great results stem from well-conceived plans. We begin every project with a thorough understanding of its objectives, ensuring our vision aligns perfectly with that of our clients. Our process is transparent and honest – we are not shy about discussing what is achievable and what is not, always proposing feasible solutions to any challenges we encounter. This principle is akin to the well-known maxim, “fail to plan, plan to fail“. While the notion of failure might sound dramatic, it is the philosophy of thorough preparation that guides every project. Reflecting on the wisdom of Sun Tzu, philosopher and military strategist, who said “each battle is won before it is ever fought“, we are reminded of the power of preparation. Our sgemas – our plans – are about paving the way for success with confidence and clarity.
The roots of our approach
Our approach is nothing new with its origins flowing back to ancient Greek philosophy. Since those times it has evolved in meaning further to refer to as a blueprint providing a framework for generating endless ideas, solutions, and innovations, the concept of schema crosses disciplines, aiding in logic, mathematics, and semantics to form structured, infinite theories, and patterns. It’s this foundational strategy that informs our approach to any project we undertake.
Sgema collective
Our name, Sgema, is more than just a word – it’s a commitment to our partners and clients. It signifies our promise to approach each project with a depth of research, planning and collaboration. If our approach resonates with you and you are considering a project that demands thoughtful, informed creativity, we would like to learn more and if we can then help.
